Note: Self-Esteem shows in the way we hold and move our bodies, the way we gesture and the way we look at others. Walking with grace makes us look and feel better about our selves.

12 Steps to a Graceful Walk

  1. Toes point forward.
  2. Knees soft (slightly bent) at all times.
  3. Pelvis tilted up and under.
  4. Tummy and buttocks are held tight.
  5. Arms are relaxed next to the side swinging the width of the step.
  6. Hands are held in profile (middle finger can feel the side seam of the garment. Fingers are held long for women and curled for men, with thumb forward.
  7. Chest is up and open.
  8. Shoulders are centered and down.
  9. Neck is held high with head balanced at the top, as if being pulled up by a string from the top of the head.
  10. Chin is level to the floor. (Nose neither up nor down).
  11. Eyes look ahead following the direction of the nose.
  12. Head, held erect, glides as the body moves gracefully.

The walk for women is performed by placing one foot directly in front of the other "on line"--as if walking on a single chalk line.

The walk for men is performed by placing the feet side by side in parallel lines.

Men and women step forward heel first. Arms swing naturally no wider than the width of the step.
