Student Supporter Letter

Dear Student Supporter:

In 1987, La Belle Foundation (a non-profit 501 (C)(3) foundation) organized "ABC" (Attendance Bank Coordination) to encourage, support and recognize students, teachers and staff who "show up." It rewards them with gifts. The recipients of recognition and awards must either attend all classes for one semester, or for the entire year or for several years, on time and for the entire day.

Does it work? In 1987 only 30 students could qualify for a single semester of perfect attendance at one junior high school. Last year there were 109 junior high students from four S.B. junior highs who had perfect attendance for an entire year! Records are now accurate for every period of the day due to the new attendance programs used by each school! The project is so successful that the Industry Education Council and the Santa Barbara and Goleta Chambers of Commerce have been partners since 1991. In 1997 Carpinteria Middle School and the Carpinteria Chamber joined in this proven attendance program!

The kids learn more, the schools get more money from the state, based on ADA (average daily attendance) and truancy is reduced, so everybody wins.

Each year the Attendance Bank is replenished with gifts and donations from local businesses, individuals, and organizations. In the past these have included mountain bikes, gift certificates, surfboards, theater tickets, health care services, annual memberships, clothing and more. Financial contributions go to support the program and to purchase additional gifts. Please consider the donation of a product, service or cash to the _______ ABC fund. If just the chance of a gift can keep students in school, we should have as many gifts as we have students!
