When I reached my final semester in college, I realized that I was very close to becoming a Phi Beta Kappa. After explaining this to my father, who had not gone to college, he began to brag to his friends. He was so thrilled that he said I could do anything I wanted after college, if I got him that key! I visited each of my teachers and told them my goal of becoming a Phi Beta Kappa graduate. I'm sure that sharing my story and my goal with my father and my teachers made a difference. I made the grade and my father got the key I was awarded. He wore it as a tie clasp until he died.
