“Why are you closing the curtains, Betty? We’re on the 37th floor!

“Oh, that’s true. It’s just that this corner room, with its glass walls, seems so vulnerable. And I’m exhausted after that six hour road trip from Santa Barbara; I really need to sleep, Mr. Darling.

“OK, Sweet Bumps. Crawl in this giant bed with me and we’ll look for shooting stars until you fall asleep,” Stan said with a sexy lilt.

As if on cue, Kaboom sounded the sonic-like boom that was accompanied by a spray of vibrantly colored stars splashed outside the left glass wall of our room! Explosions accompanied the fireworks display while we watched, as if it were the first time, our 70 some year old eyes had ever experienced such a sight. The performance continued for 45 minutes; we languished in our big bed feasting on the fiesta of stars outside our glass flat screened window.

It was Mothers’ Day week-end in San Francisco. We learned, during the next morning’s news, that this phenomenal event occurs every year and that it is the biggest fireworks show that exists in California. We happened to be in the perfect position to view the production rising from the base of the Bay Bridge!

Why would an annual event be a miracle to us? Well, why would we be in a glassed walled room on the 37th floor, in a giant bed, at 8 pm at night in San Francisco, when the one time spectacular would be held without our having known about it and having planned everything to the minute? So, tell me why?
